Struggling Through Life

An outlet for all my useless knowledge and opinions

Top 10 ways you’re ruining you’re life (teen edition)

Stuck in your ways? Feel like you’re going no where? Read on to find out how you’re wasting your time, or to find out how I slowed down my future.

  1. Putting money before your education. You don’t need to blow off college for a measly 3 hour shift. Nothing is more important than your education.
  2. You don’t need to drink at every opportunity, you have many years to do that.
  3. Apply to university! Even if you don’t want to go yet! You can differ until you’re ready. You don’t want to be like me, out of college with nobody to help you with UCAS applications.
  4. TV IS NOT EVERYTHING. Go outside, see your friends. You won’t have much chance to relax when you’re no longer a teenager. Even when you’re relaxing you know there is always that feeling of needing to do something urgently.
  5. Study as much as you can. Any questions that pop into your mind, not just what’s been assigned to you. There is no limit to knowledge.
  6. Sleep in, but not too much. Lie ins are great and everyone needs plenty of sleep, but wasting every day sleeping what are you going to look back on?
  7. Don’t care what other people think. You’ll grow up to not give a damn about insignificant people, so start that process earlier! You don’t need to care about everyone.
  8. Don’t go out of your way to hurt someone, try to avoid it completely. Honestly you’re only gaining a nasty reputation.
  9. Stick with your hobbies! The amount of things I’ve given up that I wish I could do now. Hobbies are great, everyone should have some.
  10. Explore your options. You aren’t born to live a certain way or certain idea. You’re possibilities are endless, try everything you want to.

I hope what I’ve learnt helps you.

Much love

Sleeping Beauty

I haven’t uploaded for a few days, I got quite busy and then when I did have free time I was too tired to come up with any ideas, so I’m sorry about that. This post is going to be my favourite beauty tips for while you’re sleeping. Sleeping is the best and having a beauty hacks that work in your sleep is just the perfect situation for me.

  1. Drink green tea before bed!

This might  not be the best tip for everyone as it has a small amount of caffeine in it, however drinking it an hour or so before bed will probably have the same effect. Green tea boosts your metabolism and if you’re like me with the SLOWEST metabolism imaginable, green tea is a magical thing. I like drinking this before bed because it’ll work in your sleep which is great, obviously you aren’t being active at night so it works while you’re resting.

I’ve got to say this though, it will make you wee a lot. Definitely drink an hour before if you don’t want to be getting up in the night to use the bathroom.

2. Sleep with your head elevated higher than your body.

Sleeping with your head higher than your body ensures that your face won’t be puffy when you wake up, especially that eye area, who wants puffy bags?!

I only discovered this hack recently and I must say I have definitely seen a difference. My face also looks slightly slimmer.

   3. Body brushing

Dry body brushes are truly such a fantastic creation; you can exfoliate anytime!

I like to dry brush my arms, armpits, legs and vayjay. Dry brushing removes dead skin cells and it also helps prevent ingrown hairs, which are painful as well as ugly. After dry brushing I moisturize my whole body to ensure I wake up with soft, glowing skin.

 4. Remove all your makeup

I can not stress how important this is! Leaving your makeup on is so bad for your skin! It causes clogged pores, breakouts, dry skin and wrinkles. Let’s not forget it also means makeup gets on our cute bed sheets.

Try to cleanse and moisturize your face every night. Sometimes it is a lot of effort when you’re tired so invest in some decent face wipes. Personally I try to avoid facial wipes as they leave residue on your skin which can also cause break outs but sometimes you just need a quick makeup removal, especially after a night out. I recommend Miceller water cleansing wipes. I currently use the B. Miceller Wipes but I have heard excellent reviews on the Garnier Oil Infused wipes. I use Garnier’s Oil Infused Miceller water to cleanse my face which is fantastic so I’ll try the wipes out next and let you all know how I get along with them.

  5. Coconut oil!

Coconut oil is such a God send! Everyone knows the benefits of this product so I won’t bore you with the details.

Every night I put coconut oil on the ends of my hair, in my eyebrows and on my eyelashes. It really helps prevent breakages and promotes growth. I really over plucked my eyebrows recently and coconut oil has brought them back to me so quickly! Trust me, everyone makes eyebrow shaping mistakes but coconut oil will be your savior!

You’ll notice the difference in your eyelashes aswell. Ever since including this in my routine my eyelashes have a lot longer and very thick, I often go without mascara now a days.

I’m going to publish this half finished purely becuase it’s been a while since I’ve shared anything with you all but I am simply too tired to continue. I’ll give you more of my favourite sleeping beauty hacks soon, sleep beautiful!

So this is my debut post, my ‘Grand Opening’ if you will. I have a brief explanation of why I have created my blog in the ‘Nosy’ section.

I have just turned 20, never been to university (still hoping to go though), in a dead end job, no savings, living in an awfully boring town, typical 20 something stuff going on in my life.

However I know exactly what I want to do with my life, in fact I have two plans. My dream is to work in the film industry, preferably making films. My whole life has been leading up to it, every subject I have chosen, every club, throughout school and college was heading that direction. My other dream career choice would to do theatrical makeup, again another film industry dream.

A big dream of mine is to move to London. It’s my dream city, my favourite place to be.

This post has distracted slightly from an ‘About my blog’ to an ‘About me’, so to get back to the point this blog will just be a little out let. Some times it’ll be helpful hints, favourite things at the time, movie opinions, rants and maybe a few life updates. Maybe it’ll follow my life till I make my dreams a reality, or maybe I’ll stick with it and you’ll all witness my dreams stay just that, dreams. We won’t know for a while.

I’ve had a laptop for a while now so it’s about time I started using it for something usual rather than just Tumblr. popstars

I have a Love Affair with Makeup

I love makeup. Most people do.

I never used to care, I grew up with two brothers so I was set in my tom boy ‘bras are embarrassing’ ways for a LONG time.

Nowadays however, I’m obsessed.

I would say my love started in year 9, better known as the beginning of my ‘scene/emo’ phase. I must say some days I’m still in this phase. I started with the classic ‘found on youtube tutorials’ rainbow eyeshadow. I can’t find pictures of that ‘iconic’ look (quite sad) but I’ve found a *gem* from back in the day.

emo The emo-eyeliner and foundation that could not cover a single blemish was definitely a bad time for me; but I’ve come a long way since those days  (I’m sad to say this was year 11).

Still not my best makeup (check those 2015 eyebrows) but just an example of how much my skill progressed in 3 years. Not to be vain but that eye makeup was pretty bomb and at least I’ve finally found a foundation that’ll cover my permanently red skin. Rosacea is a pain to deal with, you really can’t go a day with out foundation if you’re planning on leaving your house.

2016 has definitely been my year with makeup! I’m still improving, I don’t think I’m the best thing out there but I’m getting pretty good if I do say so myself. Skincare is my main focus right now. I want to get the canvas in the best condition to get my makeup less flawed.

I love doing my pretty makeup but my favourite thing to do is messy, ugly special effects makeup. I completely a course on SPFX makeup from 2014-2015 and I must say, despite not getting along with many people on this course, breaking my hand half way through the year and absolutely hating my teacher, I adored this course!

I got to experience a lot of things I never thought I would before and I also learnt how to create a lot of interesting looks.

My absolute favourite section of this course was ‘Casuality’. I learnt how to create some gruesomely realistic injuries.

I am most proud of the electrical burn if I’m honest, it just looks so realistic. Honestly if you’re interested in makeup there is nothing more fun than special effects! Everyone should try it out.

During this course we put on a fashion show. This was an experience in itself. It was very fast paced and we had to completely change the looks of our models in a very short time. We had to create two looks ‘Carnival’ and a movie theme, lucky for me the group I was in got one of my favourite films to create looks for, Moulin Rouge.

Unfortunately I can’t get the images to share with you guys, they are on my instagram if you’re interested (@checkmeoutimahobbit). This small section was more to share my experience of part of this course. On subject if you ever get an opportunity that you’re unsure about just take it. I am quite an anti-social person. I almost didn’t sign up for this course and when I’d almost finished I tried to drop out. What I’m saying really is an age old lesson, don’t give up you will regret it.
